A roadtrip for a burger? But this isn't any old burger, this is a Ferg
The Fergburger is legendary, at least in New Zealand. And especially in Queenstown where the endless queues out the door which often snake down the road are about as famous at its burgers.
It’s part of the many attractions of Queenstown and one of the most popular to do things in the town. Which is odd because at the end of the day it’s just a burger joint, and the world has plenty of those, right?
So is Fergburger, or the Ferg as it likes to be known, actually worth it? Well yes, to be honest it is. The burgers are quite frankly delicious. I’m not sure if it’s the fresh bread buns they use or the salads and sauces but these are some of the best burgers to be had anywhere, period.
If you are new to the scene try The Fergburger, the standard cheeseburger where you can choose the cheese you want to include. Want to try something a bit different then there is Little Lamby, as you can guess hopefully by the name this is a lamb burger. Or maybe the Codfather appeals made with South Island blue cod, it’s a recommended tasty treat.
The sides are pretty good too although to be honest with the size of the burgers you probably don’t need them, but hey needs must and if you are going to queue for a Fergburger you might as well go all out.
The best time to visit is probably early morning, and having a Fergburger for breakfast is definitely not frowned upon. The queues tend to be quieter so it’s more sensible and with such a busy day of Queenstown activities planned starting with a Ferg is an excellent plan. You are certainly going to burn at least some of that burger off…..
I also love Fergbaker that is next door. It serves up great coffees and some excellent treats to take to refuel during the day. The Ferg Boston cream donut is just so delicious it’s no wonder they have heaps of them ready to serve – try one you won’t be disappointed. I can hear them calling me the moment I enter Queenstown, it’s so dangerous be warned, a bit like a Patagonia ice-cream….
There is now also a Fergbar next door to the burger joint. So basically you can have a burger, a pint and then a donut all within a few steps of one another…..It’s a Queenstown must do experience, give it a go.
