Talyors Mistake, beach, surf and scenic walk

Up and over a narrow residential area across from Sumner is the small settlement of Taylors Mistake. This is a Christchurch beach at it’s best as far away from the city as it could possibly be. First thing on a morning the beach is empty say for perhaps a couple of keen surfing dudes, and it really is the best time to go. Head right and towards a couple of small bachs (New Zealand holiday homes) which lead to the beginning of a fantastic walkway. A short climb takes you up to the well established pathway that snakes around the cliffside peninsula here. The views stretch far and wide across the sea and out to the distant horizon. If you look back to where you came from there is the beach in its glorious setting with the waves booming to the shoreline. On a clear day the rugged peaks of the Southern Alps are even visible on the skyline.
